Short Straddle

A short straddle sells both a call and a put at the same strike and expiration to profit from a stagnant, low-volatility trading range or a sharp drop in implied volatility. Maximum gain is the credit received and occurs if the stock closes at the strike. Because risk is theoretically unlimited on the call side, it is generally reserved for advanced traders.
